So this song is pretty great. It makes me smile every time I hear it (for a number of reasons). And while I'm not gonna deal with the whole song, there are some lines that kinda stand out to me.
"Aw, baby, how you doing? You know I'm gonna cut right to the chase, huh? Some women were made, but me, myself, I like to think that I was created for a special purpose, you know? What's more special than you? You feel me?" The singer starts the song by speaking to the special person in her life. Rather than beating around the bush and playing with emotions, she plainly expresses her thoughts - while other women exist, she believes that her purpose in creation was the love in her life. Now, I don't want to argue or disagree with her wonderful sentiment, because I do believe that our lives are orchestrated in such a way that we all have purpose, and that purpose does include certain people (exes, family, friends, significant others, etc), but I will disagree that her entire purpose is in one person.
"It's on, baby, let's get lost. You don't need to call in to work 'cause you're the boss. For real, want you to show me how you feel. I consider myself lucky, that's a big deal. Why? Well, you got the key to my heart, but you ain't gonna need it. I'd rather you open up my body and show me secrets you didn't know was inside. No need for me to lie." The singer is asking to get away and spend some time. Her boo is the boss, so he doesn't even have to call in - he can just go because he runs things. The purpose of getting away is for him to express how he feels, both in word and in action. As amazing as she is, she considers herself lucky to have him in her life, which means a lot. Even though he holds the means to touch her on a deep emotional level, she wants him to connect with her physically in a way that no one else has, taking her to new heights. It's as if love has been established, and now she is looking connect beyond the emotional.
"It's too big (big). It's too wide (wide). It's too strong (strong). It won't fit (fit). It's too much (much). It's too tough (tough). He talk like this cuz he can back it up. He got a big ego, such a huge ego. I love his big ego. It's too much. He walk like this 'cause he can back it up." If you don't get the innuendo, I'm not gonna explain it to you. ;-)
"Usually I'm humble. Right now, I don't choose - you can leave with me or you could have the blues. Some call it arrogant. I call it confident. You decide when you find out what I'm working with. Damn, I know I'm killing you with them legs, better yet, them thighs. Matter of fact it's my smile, or maybe my eyes? Boy, you're a sight to see, kinda something like me." Just like her boo has a big ego, the singer makes it clear that she is not lacking in confidence. While some people may mistake her confidence for arrogance, she feels that her awesome makes what she feels justified. So when she says that anyone who turns her down will be left wanting and sad, she is simply stating a fact, because she is a treasure. Either way, she leaves that to the opinion of whoever is looking as she tries to pinpoint which part of her is is that makes her so irresistible. And just as she is fantastic, she once again recognizes that her boo is equally fabulous.
I want to say that a little ego is healthy. If you have no sense of your self-worth, it will be hard to love yourself, much less anyone else. But just be sure that your ego isn't such that it becomes obnoxious arrogance.... When you think you're better than everyone, people will happily leave you with your favorite person - you. Know who you are, but value the greatness in others as well. As always, balance is key.
