Day 145 - Emotions

“It’s over and done, but the heartache lives on inside, and who is the one you’re clinging to instead of me tonight?”  It appears that a relationship has ended, but the pain is still very real in the life of the singer.  And she can’t help but wonder who is now filling the space that she once occupied.

“I’m there at your side – a part of all the things that you are.  But you have a part of someone else.  You gotta go find your shining star.”  It appears as if she is devoted and present, but her love seems to be somewhere else, in search of new adventures.  This leaves her heart open and aching as she is trying to negotiate what is going on.

“And where are you now, now that I need you?  Tears on my pillow… Wherever you go, I cry me a river that leads to your ocean.  You’ll never see me fall apart.  In the words of a broken heart, it’s just emotions taking me over - caught up in sorrow, lost in a song, but if you don’t come back, come home to me, darling, don’t you know there’s nobody left in this world to hold me tight?  Don’t you know there’s nobody left in this world to kiss good night?”  She is now alone, wondering where her love has gone.  She cries herself to sleep at night, but she maintains a strong face in public, because that’s what “strong” people do.  She doesn’t want her love to see her in such a position, especially when there seems no chance of reconciliation.  In her private space, she feels her emotions taking over.  The pain is overwhelming, and the loneliness is getting to her as well.

Something I’ve realized is that emotions, like it says it in the song, have a tendency to take over, especially the sad or painful ones.  In the ad lib, Beyonce says, “Don’t you know I’m lost without you, baby?”  Strong emotions can do that and make you feel like the end of the world when it’s really just a paper cut…  But I will take tomorrow’s entry to talk about emotions more in depth.
